If I understand you rightly, on the "F" specs, 
use the PREFIX keyword.  That'll add a prefix 
in front of your database file field names
like so:
FMED              DISK    PREFIX(MED)
FDEN              DISK    PREFIX(DEN)
if both files have field SSN in them, your code
will be able to refer to 
MEDSSN and DENSSN instead of SSN.
