Not only is this usage sanctioned by IBM, but IBM have been making Code/400
available to members of Partners in Education for some time now.  Don't
know the exact details of the current setup, but last year we were giving
students the eval copy for use at home and encouraging (just as you
suggest) the teachers to have a "live" copy in school to allow students to
get the cached descriptions of their files so that the verifier can be used
at home.

Where did you get the idea that it was only valid for thirty days ?  As far
as I know there's no such limit.  The restriction is on the number of
connections made to a 400.  If there's a time limit it's news to me.
