I clearly remember discussions on the >cost of dasd to store the "19" and nearly everyone agreeing that when it came >to adding in a gazzillion 19s the choice was "save the money". it depends. but everything was expensive then. when i started (1972) i don't remember that being discussed. it was just the way you did it (the date formatting) and i never gave it a thought. but sometimes, physical disk limitations would be a problem too, beyond the money. remember the 32 had a limit of 12 meg (or something like that) and the original 34, 27 meg. but i think there's more to it than just the disk space. why key the 19 all the time? weren't you denied coffee or something like that when you tried to implement that? nj
