Okay, everyone has the right to a stupid question.  Here is mine.  I keep 
seeing things about APIs.  I have no idea what you are talking about. 
 Help!

Rajeev,

I don't know if this was previously mentioned, but rather than copying
or scanning the joblog there is the Retrieve Request Message (QMHRTVRQ)
API which provides several methods for retrieving previously executed
commands.  The API can be found in the Message Handling APIs chapter of
the System API Reference and would not require periodic recopying of the
joblog or filtering on your part for non-request messages.
