There have been a lot of conversations about "Importing AS/400 Spool files
to Excel/Lotus"

Is this some thing that would answer any of your questions?

"PrestoOutq will: Automatically converts any AS/400 spool file to a MS
Excel/Lotus 123 filed by converting it into a comma delimited file (.csv),
ie general ledger, accounts payable etc. The file then can be ready by
Excel or Lotus or any other applicaiton that can process a .csv file.
Spool file is formatted into cells, as designated by User, for easier
viewing. Reguires no User interface, beyond initial setup. PrestoOutq is
ideal for batch processing. Copies files via FTP the converted file to IFS
or Network Server. No applicaiton reporgramming is required."

I do NOT know if this is what you are interested in or not. Any ? call me
