I would first use a query to create a database file that contains all the
fields you will need to provide to the user.

Using ODBC, I import AS400 database files directly into Access.  You define
the ODBC connection in Control Panel. It's not that hard, you just supply
the system name and the library where the file is, that's about it.

Then in Access (assuming 97 version) click on File/Get External Data/Import/
and in the files of type list select ODBC databases and select the ODBC
connection that you defined which brings up a list of files, select your file.
BOOM! Instant Access table.  It is a great tool.

You can then export the Access table to an Excel file.
