The AS400 will always be (to me) the little engine who could. I
have seen the reliability of the AS400. I'd have to _see_ a 99.9%
MS NT SQL server to believe it. I'd be willing to bet their
"guarantee" lets them wimp out if you install apps not on their
supported list, or some such technicality.

Sorry Don, I remain skeptical of ANY claims about 99.9% reliability
of MS products. I am sure it's happened (somewhere, sometime), just
unsure that anyone can make such claims consistently. If it's all
the same, I'll stick with AS400's _PROVEN_ record.

Gang --

Recently, Data General Corporation announced that if you run their hardware
with NT Server and SQL Server, they will guarantee a 99.9 percent uptime.

Do they know something we don't know?

What do they mean by "guarantee" anyway?

I found it interesting. Consider this: WHAT IF (a BIG "what if", but "what if"
nonetheless) ... WHAT IF a combination of NT Server and a relatively
inexpensive server DID -- in fact -- give the same uptime as an AS/400? What
would THEN be the argument IN FAVOR of the AS/400??

Peace,
