Please feel free to email me privately with any ideas that might help us out. Mary :-) >> Mary - as a recruiter, I see quite a few shops and what they need to see in programmers. RPG IV seems to be the bulk of whats needed, with about equal amounts using some RPG III and ILE. ILE is picking up steam, howver rather rapidly. I find that a lot of shops are interested in JAVA development on an AS/400 but very few are actually doing it. If I were designing the curriculum with my clients in mind, I would focus about 50/50 RPG IV and ILE, and find a way somehow to throw in a class or two about JAVA and COBOL.. Even if the instructor is not an expert, it would be a great opportunity for both instructor and students to get at least minimal exposure to JAVA. After all, JAVA is at a stage right now where almost no company involved on the AS/400 side really expects heavy duty development skills in JAVA.
