:::Why is the PC considered "modern" and the AS/400 is considered "antiquated"? :::My guess is that there has been a noticeable change in the user interface of :::the PC over the last 17 years, whereas the AS/400 user interface has pretty :::much retained the same character-based look-and-feel since the early days of :::computing. Everybody wants a GUI, they just don't know why. I can tell you :::why: Microsoft told them that they wanted a GUI. Never mind the fact that in :::most instances of data entry, a character-based session is much more :::productive than a GUI session. I program in Visual Basic all day and LOVE IT! But ... I can think of VERY FEW instances where a GUI is necessary ... or even advantageous.
