Best to check back issues of Midrange and News/400, especially News/400's "Tips and Techniques" issues. (I've submitted a few tips for this years issue in December.) Also, check the handouts from COMMON sessions. Here's a couple more off the top of my head: 1) In OPM RPG III, packed numeric data type offered the best performance. In ILE RPG, integer and unsigned are best. 2) Some 3rd party RPG III to RPG IV conversion tools will convert fixed-form arithmetic ops to expressions. Since numeric overflow is always signalled for expressions, conversion of fixed to free-format may reveal bugs in your computations. 3) In general, just use the new ways of doing things! I'm sure others can offer more tips. Cheers!
