Steve,

"3812" is just a well-known (to the Telnet server) printer model; its
negotiation in Telnet does not imply whether ASCII or EBCDIC data will be sent
to the "printer" client.
Have a look at "AS/400 Telnet Server TN5250E Draft RFC" (web link below). Page
16 specifies the environment variable "IBMTRANSFORM", which controls whether
transformed data is sent to the "printer" TN5250E client. Your client software
will most likely have a check box labeled "Host Print Transform" (or something
to that effect) which controls whether "IBMTRANSFORM" is negotiated on or off
with the server.

Look for the draft titled "5250 Telnet Enhancements",
by Thomas Murphy, Paul Rieth, Jeffrey Stevens.

Subject: TN5250E Printer Support

Is it possible to send and SCS printer stream using a TN5250E attached
printer? The only printer types available for TN5250E are 3812 and
5553 (DBCS printer). The docs we have on the these printer show them
     to be ASCII printers only.

Does anyone use the Transform option to print over TN5250E.

     Thanks,

     Steve Bireley
