Steve, "3812" is just a well-known (to the Telnet server) printer model; its negotiation in Telnet does not imply whether ASCII or EBCDIC data will be sent to the "printer" client. Have a look at "AS/400 Telnet Server TN5250E Draft RFC" (web link below). Page 16 specifies the environment variable "IBMTRANSFORM", which controls whether transformed data is sent to the "printer" TN5250E client. Your client software will most likely have a check box labeled "Host Print Transform" (or something to that effect) which controls whether "IBMTRANSFORM" is negotiated on or off with the server. http://www.ietf.org/ids.by.wg/tn3270e.html Look for the draft titled "5250 Telnet Enhancements", by Thomas Murphy, Paul Rieth, Jeffrey Stevens.
