Thanks.

It is definitely described in the V3R1 and V3R2 manuals.  I could not find it 
in V4R1 or V4R2.  I assumed it 
would be in the V3R6 and V3R7 manuals.  Perhaps it was only described in the 
IMPI manuals.

It would be nice but I guess not really necessary.  The size of date fields on 
disk only affects the amount of 
DASD required and disk is cheap.  The date manipulation benefits are what 
should drive using 
date/time/timestamp fields not disk space.
