> Thank you to all the answers to my query > I will do some indepth study before atempting to install my first > release ah, it's not that hard really, i think that the list of stuff also had to do with an e-jump, which also has the risc changes. do you have the manual that came with v2r3?. that's an easy upgrade to cut your teeth on. if i recall, the steps to go from v2r2 to v2r3 are as follows: before you start - be sure you have everything and clean your tape drive. also be sure that everything you have on your machine is included on the tapes. for example, if you have cobol, and the tapes you borrowed do not, you could be in for problems. and if you're short of disk, be sure you have enough disk to hold the upgrade. 1. do a complete backup (the #21 on the save menu) 2. perm install your existing ptf's (not absolutely required, but makes the process go faster, and you're less likely to run out of disk) 3. i don't think there was a required pre-install ptf with v2r3. so now you do the actual install. this part will take hours, and possibly require tape changes. 4. install the ptf tape. your biggest problems would be a dirty tape drive, a bad tape, or running out of disk. then, when you're done, you need to re-make any system type changes you may have made. these would be your start up procedure, any special sub system changes (we have some device selections for a remote subsystem) and any default changes to ibm procedures you may have made (for example we change the strprtwtr to align(*file) to eliminate the default line up halt) for the jump to v3, you do need to pre-install a ptf. also, (i think) the release is protected by serial #. you can't just borrow it from someone. nj +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
