I think Dean has made a good point. We don't have to desk check their homework,
but on the other hand some remarks have been very rude. It's pretty hard to be
much
help in a listserver format when the questions are so basic. I would help if
there
was a mentor available, even if they hired a consultant for a short stint to
double
as a mentor.

There is a computer operator at my current client site that is taking RPG. He
just
finished a CL cource. I try to be understanding and help him when he has
questions.
My bigger concern is the instruction he is getting in class. They are being
taught
how to program with extensive use of indicators. From talking to him, it sounds
like they need to learn RPG 2, then RPG 3 then RPG/400. They are still coding
on the old spec forms (F-specs, I-specs, etc). Granted, nowing the cycle is
necessary, but I would think that learning modularized, structured programming
is a must. I wonder if there is a lot of old RPG 2 programmers out there
teaching
now.
