David, PeopleSoft has a proprietary development environment called PeopleTools. The on-line system was written in PeopleTools. The Applications server code is written in C++, COBOL and SQR. COBOL is used for the heavy processing. The COBOL code in the PeopleSoft application is essentially platform independent. MicroFocus COBOL is used on platforms except IBM S/390 and AS/400. ILE/COBOL is used on the AS/400. SQR is a 3rd-party report writing tool with update capability. SQR is used primarily for reports and some light processing. PeopleSoft's AS/400 offering is really a hybrid. The AS/400 can be the database server, but it cannot be an application server. The 3-tier environment uses DB2/400 for the database and NT for the application servers. Tuxedo is the transaction monitor they use on the application servers. In a 2-tier environment, the client does most application processing. While we are on the subject of your change management product, what are your plans to support SAP R/3 in an AS/400 environment? Folks: I'm trying to find some information on the Peoplesoft package(s) with regard to what kind of source and/or object they use (as it would relate to our Change Management product). Does Peoplesoft use standard RPG, CL, COBOL, and Objects ... or do they have a proprietary case tool / program generator?
