"Cataloging" Tapes - something "weird" (???) -- MIDRANGE-L

Chuck asked many questions regarding cataloging tapes using DSPTAP. 

   There is a problem with the method you are using.  IBM is constantly
changing the output from DSPTAP.  Sometimes it is a change that is seen
immediately.  Other times the change is suttle and the change will give you
incorrect information.  When going to a new release of the operating
system, make sure that you check out the splf and your file or you will
have problems.  I know from experience that using splf information is not
the most usefull and has got me in trouble because of it.
