The following code worked for me...(I'm typing this, so spacing is not
actual, also, PLEASE NOTE, code is taken from News400 article October 1996
'In Search of a Good-looking Date' by Doug Pence and Ron Hawkins.  The
complete article is available on the web site www.as400.com and explains
this API in more detail)

There are quite a few date pictures available to define what the output
date should look like, such as YYMMDD, MMDDYY, MM/DD/YY, and Mmmmmmmmmz ZD,
YYYY (December 1, 1996).  See the OS/400 System API Reference for more.
