I'm shocked that the IBM prices were competitive (well, there was the qty diff). For the Magnus 13GB 1/4" cartridges for the 6385 IBM wants about CDN $165 each, and Misco is $99 for Imation tapes (3M's offshoot) - who it appears make the tapes for IBM anyway. Hi Neil, You get one free backup tape, one free cleaning tape and one free test tape with the 7208-342 drive. I think the free backup tape is for you to save your full system after it's up for the first time. The tapes were backordered from IBM like crazy and didn't come until last week. I had to order some Sony tapes from another vendor to tide me over. (Or is it tied?) I paid $120.10 CAD each (qty=20) from IBM and paid $122.50 CAD each (qty=5) from International Business Supplies. The backup times are short but I don't know how much is due to the drive and how much is due to the 170. We're only at 7.4GB right now and here are the times. 8 mins - SAVSYS 25 mins - SAVLIB *NONSYS 1 min - SAVDLO 8 mins - SAV In case anyone has this model, the tape statistics in Service Tools has this information under 1/4" instead of 8mm. I just placed a call with IBM for this. Glenn Gundermann Ronald A.
