     The performance penalty for file open/close is pretty severe, and 
     it gets worse if you do journaling and/or commitment control. 
     Generally, there's no need for user control (UC) unless you are 
     issuing OVRDBF, OVRPRTF commands, separating splf reports, and so 
     forth.
     
     I'd not use UC processing unless it's absolutely necessary.

Hi and Thanks Pete,
Yes this is what I am doing.
 I have a driving file that has several National Account #'s in it.  I read one 
 of
the National Account #'s then I OPEN the second (UPDATE) file, SETLL on it with 
e
partial key, then READE the records updating all the Equal records, then it 
drops out of the DOW loop and CLOSES the file.  Then it reads the next National 
Accoun #
and drops back into the above routine again.  I thought the UC user area was the
proper way to do the file updates?
