Initially I tried putting mm/dd/yyyy on user screens. The users rebelled. I mean, they rebelled. I was not allowed near the coffee pot, the pretty girls scowled at me, and the guys pointed their fingers and laughed. When I mentioned about them not being quite smart enough to seee that /00 was really 2000... well, let us just say that wasn't my finest hour. Based upon that humiliation, I'd recommend everyone get their own yyyymmdd --> mmddyy --> yyyymmdd conversion algorithim. Or use L-date.
