we are not currently using smtp for mail coming into the lotus/notes
machine. it is coming thru another firewall, that forwards it to the
as400's address, and from there lotus/notes handles it. we are using the
firewall with smtp to route internet mail outside.

sorry, this is probably not the answer that you were looking for. i have
been working on the firewall more as a liason between the people that are
setting up lotus, and operations. they are familiar with lotus, i am
familiar with the as400's. we have all been working together to get it all
up and running, and smtp has not been a high priority right now.
