This is the way I would have solved it if I could. I intentionally simplified 
my earlier
description. The Customer/Chain is only one aspect. I also have Items that work 
the
same way. Item Numbers, Vendor Numbers, Item Class Codes and Retail
Departments are all part of the Item definition. I load a second work file 
(VELITEM)
with Item Numbers and use it just like my first workfile for Customers. I need 
to
know why OPNQRYF is building the intermediate file. Sorry, but your solution can
not help me. Thanks anyway. I am only describing part of the requirements. QMQRY
cannot solve this either.
