Hopefully Bruce Vining will reply also (He KNOWS Exit Programs area!!) IBM has provided Exit programs as a vehicle for "hooking" into certain functions in the system. An example is the FRP exit point. When the FTP process see's an exit point, it checks tosee if there are any user programs registered for that exitpoint. If there is, the proogram is called, passing the predefined data structure. After the user program completes, information is passed back to the IBM program, which uses the returned information to determine what action to take. An example would be an Exit Point for FTP signon. The user program could perform additional validation (possible time of day, for ecxample). If the user program secided not to allow the user to have FTP access, a particular value would be returned to the IBM program. The IBM program would then end, issuing an error message in the process. Also, developers may create there own exit points using IBM's registration facilities and EP APIs. Although it sounds complicated, remember, IBM's program is just calling another program, in this case yours. And your program is just setting return "codes" for the calling program.
