Sometimes the telnet servers would get into a loop and use a major amount of CPU resource. It acted like a memory leak. We had no trouble for a month or better while we tested things at a limited scale, but as soon as we configured everyone in the company to use telnet, we started having trouble. At the peak of the troubles, the servers would run for about 2.5-3 days before misbehaving. After an IPL they behaved themselves again for a while. Restarting the servers had no impact. AFAIK, this been fixed. At least our system has been stable for about 3 weeks now.
