This response is due to the problem with Netstations not working at the site
after we upgraded the operating system from V3R7 to V4R2 and the Netstation
Manager to release 3.

It was determined that the problem is that NSM release 3 requires more memory
in the network station itself to run than the old NSM. After we upgraded the
netstations from 8mb to 16mb we could now run a 5250 session.

Memory requirements are documented in the manual 'IBM Network Station Manager
Installation and Use June 1998' SC41-0664-00; pages 17 through 18. 8mb for
base, 4.2mb for 1st 5250 session, 1.1 for each additional 5250 session, etc.
(Numbers quoted are for languages with non extended fonts.)

Perhaps you can duplicate this in your office so that the next time someone
calls in with this problem you can look at the error messages and know that
this is a memory issue instead of all their netstations experiencing
unacceptable downtime and start pointing fingers at the network people. Just
trying to help you out for the next customer.
