James, In a message dated 98-07-22 21:04:34 EDT, you write: > We should all be "stuck" with an OS that good ;-) Ain't it the truth! I'm on the "lowly" 2.1 at my current client location. Amazing that everyone else in the group (consultants don't get new technology because it might cause billable down-time -- THANK GOD!) has switched to both Win 3.1 and '95 with _DECREASING_ system availability. Everyone except us consultants switched to 3.1 in the first place because our WIN apps were crashing with great regularity and "Tech Services" blamed it on OS/2 -- they crashed even _MORE_ under 3.1, and when the network was down so was Rumba. Meanwhile, COM Manager just keeps chugging along with no performance degradation. Now everyone (except us consultants) is part of the "WIN '95 Pilot". It often takes ten seconds or more to page down on a simple WRKSPLF display via Rumba due to router problems. Meanwhile, COM Manager just keeps chugging along with no performance degradation. Last week, I handed the other consultant (who is none too familiar with OS/2) a stack of Visio upgrade disks and asked if she wanted to install them before I gave them back (I said I'd take care of the paperwork to get her system registered). She asked "Will it _RUN_ on OS/2, it says it's for WinDoze?". Of course, I'd just installed it myself and had already updated a couple of charts. So. I've got a ten-year-old copy of an operating system that has newer versions, yet runs current programs not written for it with no problems that don't exist on the native OS in greater number, and doesn't experience the other OS's problems with network traffic yet was replaced because it was "inferior". Give me an "inferiority complex" any time... Regards! Dean Asmussen Enterprise Systems Consulting, Inc. Fuquay-Varina, NC USA E-Mail: DAsmussen@aol.com "A lot is two words.
