I would suggest IBM WorldNet. I signed up with them for that exact purpose. There is a step by step process in a Red Book Called "Cool Title about the AS400 and the Internet". It tells you how to do a dialup to an ISP using SLIP, a router on your network etc. Carl Gerlach Apex Information Systems, Inc. www.apex-isg.com -----Original Message----- From: John Martz [SMTP:jmartz@us.ibm.com] Sent: Wednesday, July 22, 1998 2:14 PM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: Re: Connect via PC Alan, >> Trying to find an ISP will to support SLIP is like finding a needle >> in a haystack. I'm at V3R7 but as I understand it I need to be at >> V4R2 and on a "new" AS/400 (mine is, after all, a year and a half >> old, horrors) for a PPP connection. What you would need to get PPP working on your AS/400 is to (1) move to V4R2 (2) purchase the communications hardware that will support the (new in V4R2) PPP line description (3) have the hardware required to use OS/400 Operations Navigator. That is you'd need to have one or more of any of the following I/O Adapters: 2699 -- Two-line WAN IOA 2720 -- PCI WAN/Twinaxial IOA 2721 -- PCI Two-line WAN IOA I expect you'd also have to purchase a new IOP to support the IOA, but frankly that's just a guess. I don't work directly with AS/400 hardware and so I'm clueless about what IOP works with what IOA on what model.. If you would tell us what model of AS/400 you have I'm sure someone could dig up this information. Or you could probably dig it out yourself from the online copy of "AS/400 System Concepts and Architecture" at the following URL: http://AS400BKS.rochester.ibm.com:80/cgi-bin/bookmgr/bookmgr.cmd/BOOKS/EZ30FL03 (Your AS/400 is only a year and half old and came with V3R7? Did we REALLY get two releases of OS/400 (V4R1 and V4R2) out in under a year and a half????
