For the first time, in a very long time, I will admit to defeat.....

For over three days, I tried the following combination:
(doing this for a customer)

IBM ThinkPad 755CD
W/3.1
Personal Communications 4.1
Hayes Autosync 33.6 PCMCIA Modem on Thinkpad
UDS V.32 Sync modem at 400 (I also tried IBM modem and it works also)

COULD NOT get it to work....for what ever reason.....

Based on SEVERAL messages I got from this group, I am not the only
one.......

In fairness to the product, a couple of people actually said they had
it working using W/95 but NOT autosync.......

                        What does WORK

The same hardware described above with MI 5250 Remote........
I called these folks and they overnighted me a copy...
I spent a total of 15 minutes doing the install and
BOOM everthing works as advertised !!!!!!!! Made connection on
first try.....

I also received a copy of similar software from another vendor,
and I also tried their version..... again 15 minutes and I was
up and running......

In conclusion, if you want or need a fairly cheap way to connect using
strickly pc gear, the above combination works and works very well....

Not including the cost of the Thinkpad, total cost:
2 modems $400 (retail)
Software $450 (retail)

I lost my butt on this deal, with the amount of time wasted......

I will be glad to share what ever tips or ideas anybody wants on this
subject......
