Don, I think that we've found that the primary language a programmer uses is less important than her knowledge of OS/400; DDS, CL, libraries, file members, job descriptions, etc. are AS/400 specific and take time to absorb. If you need to rapidly ramp up a development project, it's definitely easier to find RPG people with AS/400 experience than to find AS/400 people with C experience. On the other hand, if you have the time to train new hires in OS/400, C programmers are much easier to find than AS/400 experienced programmers. V3R1 has some limitations with the C compiler, I think, but I can't recall specifics. For higher OS/400 releases, keep in mind the fact that RPG IV can do almost all of the C stuff now that we have pointers. In addition, one can bind C routines into RPG IV... Now all you have to do is move your customers to RISC boxes! <grin> Buck Calabro Commsoft, Albany, NY mailto:mcalabro@commsoft.net +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
