However, I think the options are much wider than Russ suggests. CPYFRMTAP has all kinds of parameters that let you read/write from/to almost anything that's been done with tape over the years, UNIX, mainframe, whatever. The REELS parameter, e.g., has a 'no labels' setting (*NL). This suggests that, in fact, the NCR tape does -not- need standard labeling, which is one of the other options (*SL). Talk to the people that generated the tape and find out what they've done. Also, read the tape device programming manual.
