Don't want to be too pedantic, but...

It's easy to confuse 2 things here: Query Management and Query Manager. The
latter is the front end for the former. It sounds like you're talking about
Query Management, not Manager.

BTW, Query Management Programming, ch 12, discusses compatibility between
Query/400 and itself. You cannot ignore DDE's in QM, probably because it's
really an SAA CPI product, and therefore needs to be consistent across
multiple platforms.
