Hello, I need to be able to test the second, third, & fourth characters of an alpha field to determine if they are numeric or not. E.g. I want to test for the format xnnnxxxxx. Using sequel, I am resorting to the following statement: select * from file where substr(field,2,1) between "0" and "9" and substr(field,3,1) between "0" and "9" and substr(field,4,1) between "0" and "9" this seems awfully long winded, and was thinking that there should be a simpler way of doing the same selection, such as: select * from file where (substr(field,2,1) and substr(field,3,1) and substr(field,4,1)) between "0" and "9" but alas, no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions for making the first selection any less typing intensive and/or efficient? SQL, SEQUEL and OPNQRYF ideas gratefully accepted.
