David,
You can use embedded SQL in sub-procedures. I have done this many times in
NOMAIN modules. It has worked for me by declaring the supporting SQL
structures such as SQLDA, return areas, and indicator areas globally in the
main source section. All required SQL statements should be contained in the
sub-procedures. We are on V3R7. There are some other limitations. You cannot
use long field names and local variables that have the same name as global
variables will cause the compile to fail. I think the SQL compiler is a step
behind the regular ILE RPG compiler which causes some of these limitations

Does anyone know if you can imbed SQL into an ILE RPG program that
utilizes sub procedures... I am trying to do so and keep getting an
error that the RPG specification is out of order. When I take the
sub-procedure out, it compiles fine, or if I take the SQL out and use
regular file I/O, it works fine.
Thanks,
Dave
