For yet one more "flavor" - you could use the C function version of the MI
instructions CVTHC and CVTCH.  This has to be the fastest option.  The
prototypes below were lifted from an example you can find on Bob Cozzi's web
site www.rpgiv.com full source example downloadable from there.  Here's the
protos just to give you the basics.
