Basically I need a black blob the size/shape of a capital 'O' at about
courier 10 pitch. This will be printed on any of several types of laser
printers both twinax attached and/or SSA attached...

Thanks...

Dear Don,

I've only done this once in the past. For that application, we did the
following:

1. Target printer was IPDS capable - we used the CHRSIZ DDS keyword to resize a
standard period to replicate the dot used to fill an oval on a sheet like you
described. Worked OK.

Theoretically these methods would work too:

2. Target printer is not IPDS capable - the AS/400 supports the use of the
symbols code page (259) with all types of printers. The code page 259 symbol at
EBCDIC hex cell 'BC' is a rather large black dot. You could try printing it to
see if it meets your needs.

3. If your target printer can support the old APF function (Advanced Printer
Function - graphics and bar code capabilities normally used with 5224/5225) -
the function allowed you to build custom characters that were downloaded to the
target printer. You could build a blob to your specifications with this utility.

HTH

/Paul
