I could be wrong here, but I believe there are basically two options for
dial-up FTP between 400's.

1)      Configure a point to point TCP/IP connection (if V4R2 you can
use PPP, otherwise SLIP) on a comm line on      each AS/400, with an
ASYNCHRONOUS modem.

2)      I believe the SDLC connection will only allow an SNA connection,
so you could configure AnyNet for TCP/IP        over APPC.

I don't think you can run TCP/IP directly over an SDLC connection, but I
could be wrong.
I haven't looked into it yet, but I know that if you  run CFGTCP, then #

that everything refers to Async lines/modems.
