John Muirhead wrote to midrange-l: Hi! Does anyone have any experience installing and configuring IBM's Network 12 and 17 printers via twinax connections to the AS/400. We're running into a problem with these printers when printing to them from PCs via Client Access' virtual print function (Win3.1 & 95 both) that causes the 2 paper trays to be addressed in reverse. Here's an example: when printing a Word document to this printer, if you'd like it to draw from Tray-2, you actually must tell the PC driver to draw from Tray 1! >From the PC driver side, we've used the drivers that come with the printers (even downloaded the newest version) as well as used the "generic" HP Laserjet 4 drivers, which is what used to work with all our old Lexmark 4039 and Optra R printers. Nothing seems to work. Anyone else experience this phenomenon? And what is your overall opinion of IBM's network printers? Thanks. - --------------------------------------------------------------- John Muirhead jmuirh@treetop.com Dear John, You might want to check the configuration of the printers to see whether a feature called "Tray Renumbering" or "Tray Linking" is enabled. The feature is used to swap the source drawers that are activated by a software drawer selection command. It is usually used to make a large capacity source drawer (example 2,000 sheet feeder) the default drawer without requiring changes in the setup of the software drivers on the host.
