for the environment that was described.  (ie:  no other LANs).  IBM's 8228
prices have dropped significantly,  and you can find them used.

Yes, it's true that there more sophisticated solutions.  We even recently
removed our 8228's and replaced them with 8226's (a passive solution with
LEDs), which is an RJ45 based solution.  But we have a relatively
complicated LAN environment, with 5 (going to 7) AS/400s, a half dozen PCs,
and an ultra-complicated wiring system, totally based on RJ45 cabling.

If all I had to do was to hook up two AS/400s, and both had token ring
cards, an 8228 is a no-brainer.
