Subject: TCP/IP Printing and Page Parameters

Now that I've figured out how to get output to a TCP/IP attached printer, how
are page parameters controlled?
If I use an externally described printer file, lines per page, characters per
inch, overflow line number, etc. are defined in the printer file. Will these
parameters now need to be output for the particular printer? Do I need to make
sure that my HEADER record in the printer file has the appropriate commands for
the particular printer? We're using a Printronix P5009 with a build in Ethernet
card.
If I do need to create commands, this would mean that output going to an IBM
5225 could not be sent to a TCP/IP attached printer unless changes to the
output specs/printer file were made, correct?
It doesn't seem like many people are doing this type of thing.
Maybe it's because it's more difficult than using IPDS.
TIA
