Code/400 is probably one of my "pet peeves." It is a wonderful product that IBM has pushed for years, but with very little success. I worked at a shop once where I installed and used Code/400. After I left, the shop never used it again. I talked with the MIS director for the site and he said that although he had the licenses, he didn't know how long it would take for the programmers to learn to use it, SO HE JUST KEPT THEM USING SEU!! Code/400 is part of the Application Development Tool Set/Client Server. It "replaces" PDM. Not really, it just augments it for PC users. It has an awesome editor, the LPEX editor, which by itself will probably bump productivity 10%. You just can't tell how much an editor can do for you until you are really using it. And it has a fantastic debugger. It is a full featured interactive debugger with a PC based interface. Plus, of course, the screen/report layout designer. I have heard this is updated in the new version. IBM is not the only one out with a suite of tools for development using PC features and developing code for the AS/400. But market acceptance of these tools is really, really slow. There is also a Code/400 list server. If interested I can get you that. I am sure Jon Paris can get you pricing and stuff, right now I have to get my daughter to school!! Chris Rehm Mr.AS400@ibm.net How often can you afford to be unexpectedly out of business?
