Hey - don't get us wrong. It certainly wasn't junk. For it's day it was an amazing machine (and yes the top of it was great for keeping that Pizza or bucket of chicken hot !). It's just that it is now ANCIENT (although as someone correctly pointed out, it was STILL more reliable in it's time than NT is 20 years later !), and in a residence not that easy to use because: a) It's BIG ! b) It's HEAVY ! c) If it has a 208v 3-phase power supply - forget it. d) If it takes 220v single phase you might be able to run it, but your electricity bill would probably skyrocket - both to power the S/34 and your air-conditioning (although to compensate your heating bill in winter may come down) - and it's not certified for residential use, so it may cause interference with your (or your neighbors) TV/Radio/Stereo/Ham Radio/CB/Cellular Phone reception, and presumably the FCC could order you to turn it off if they received any complaints. If you want to get an old Rochester made antique to play with in the house, you would be much better off with any one of the following: a) System/32 b) System/36 - 5364 c) System/36 - 5363 d) System/36 - 5362 (anything except a 5360). Well OK, none of these are certified for residential use either and may cause interference, but there's probably less of a chance with one of these than a S/34. As for someone's suggestion of getting a S/38 - same arguments (Big, Heavy, 3-Phase power). The best use I saw for an old S/38 was someone who had it in their basement, and had converted it into a bar. The diskette magazine area was where they stored the glasses, they gutted the main system inside to hold a beer keg, and the beer tap came out the top of the system near the console screen.
