Jon, You said this VERY well: >>>> I can teach any RPG coder the basics of Java programming in less than a day. Will (s)he be able to design and build worthwhile applications with that knowledge? No way - not until they can dump the procedural part of their brain and OOisize themselves!! <<<< It took me about a week to learn C++ (many years ago and already knowing C). It took me 2 years to learn Object Oriented. And some might even argue that I still haven't learned it <g>. The Syntax of Java (and C++ and I am assuming other OO languages) is a piece of cake. However, OO is a large Paradigm Shift from Procedural languages like RPG, C, Cobol, etc. But, OO is some of the greatest stuff to come down the pike since the first Compiler. OO has allowed me to due some truly amazing stuff that would have been much harder using a procedural language. It is well worth the pain of learning OO. Just don't expect to do it overnight.
