Checksum support _WAS_ available on the 400 in past releases, but it has
been dropped (don't recall if it was/will be dropped in V4R1 or V4R2) in
favor of RAID. All AS/400 models can now run RAID so there is no need for a
software implementation of RAID (checksum).

I agree w/you that all machines (AS/400s AND PC Servers) should be running
RAID at this point.
