The only catch is this involves a change to a message, and that requires
strong justification for a PTF, since it involves translation. I can't
justify a PTF for this change. Would our putting the change in a future
release of OS/400 be satisfactory to you?

Then Walden Leverisch replied:

>>
God I love having you guys online. Not to step on Chuck's reply, but ...
In a PTF pass the additional information to the send message command,
but leave it up to the customer to modify the message id to show the
information. In a future release of OS/400 you could change the message
yourself.

And Neil Palmer added:

Yes, that exact approach has been taken in the past. For example, APAR
SA43892 (V3R1 PTF SF23807) used this approach to add extra data to the
CPF1269 message.

I'm sure IBM may be able to justify a similar approach in this case
without having to resort to a full blown MRI PTF with all the
translation. :-)

And I finally replied:

Thanks for the pointers, I'll look into SA43892 and see what I can do.
I'm glad I can be of help.
