I may show some ignorance here but I think 2780/3780 is essentially BiSynch
programming.  We use Bisynch programs to due numerous file transfers over
our ECS modems.  Works easy.  I did not create any programs for this by
scratch (I'm sure someone on this list has!) but do have some COBOL/400
programs that do this (not my choice).  If you want samples let me know.
Also, some of the manuals (I think Intrasystem Communications Programming)
have some RPG examples.....
