Booth, >>But anyway my point is this: I was surprised at the way the new AS/400 >>was received after it was named. For some non-logical reason people have >>responded very favorably. Still, a thought to consider. >> >>Has anyone else given their AS/400 an official name and referred to it >>that way? What reactions were there? (Sometimes I worry that I imagine >>too much.) Many moons ago I worked with a bunch of folks with a great sense of humor. When we received our first Beta /400 they named it Thumper (after the Bambi character). Well, to make a short story long, when I received 2 new RISC boxes a year ago I was telling the story to my folks and they liked the concept. They ended up naming all our systems after Pooh characters. They now have Tigger, Eeyore, etc... CIO bought stuffed animals from Disney to put on the various systems. When talking with the users it is comical hearing the names referenced as systems. Even the test data incorporates the theme. Phony names like Winnie T. Pooh. Levity in the workplace never hurts. Now I wish we could do something similar here at IBM. John W.
