There is a user tool in the TAATOOL library called RTVJOBSTS, which mostly
accomplishes the IF ACTIVE of the S/36 OCL.  Here are a few lines from the
tool...

The  Retrieve Job  Status command  allows  you to  return  a status  of
whether  a job  is on  the job  queue, is  active or  is on  the output queue.

This tool was available in the freeware from IBM (pre V3R2) and in the newer
improved licensed version from Jim Sloan.
