Daniel,

I'll be porting the ZLIB (http://quest.jpl.nasa.gov/zlib/)
compression library to the AS/400 in the next few weeks. This
is not quite the same as GZIP, but if you are looking for
compression on the AS/400, it is an option.

The compression it uses is the same as PKZIP and is decribed by
RFC's 1950, 1951 & 1952.

If you don't want to wait for me, or pay our price (to be
determined. We hadnt thought about selling it, but if there is
a market...), then you can probably do the port yourself as it
should not be horribly tough to do. The thing that will stop
most people is that they do not have the ILE/C Compiler on the
AS/400.

We will be doing this port so we can use it in a low level
sockets interface. I've used ZLIB in this sort of thing before
but it was under Win95/NT. It worked very well in that
environment.

Subject: Zipping (?) AS/400 Objects

Hi,

I've read a few post in this list, were PKZIP for the AS/400 is
discussed.
But I wonder, if GZIP (GNU Zip) exists for the AS/400. Its a
free compression
tool comming out of the U**X world and exist for nearly all
platforms. But I
didn't seen it on the AS/400.

Does anybody know about a AS/400 prot of GZIP ???

Bye

Daniel Gross
