Sounds interesting Don. I would be interested in trying your program
once it is completed. My company must adhere to FDA rules and
regulations which includes a lot of documentation and testing. Any
program that would assist us with documentation and, or testing would be
helpful!

Subject: Software testing scripts

All --

My current client manufactures pharmaceuticals, and therefore software
testing
is very important. To this end, they prepare a "test script" for each
program;
a step-by-step checklist.

Theoretically, this is an _exhaustive_ test; as exhaustive as reasonably
possible. In reality, a lot gets missed.

Creating the script is a real time-consuming hassle. Basically, a
programmer
(me at this point!) must go through the program, attempt everything, and
record
every action. That log, in turn, must be converted into a script. Believe
you
me, it's VERY involved.

Today, while musing about this, I was able to develop a "model" for the
"Work
With..."-type of program. This model will allow me to develop a Visual
Basic
program that will prompt the user for information about the program and
automagically generate a test script in a Microsoft Word document. This
script
will be VERY exhaustive, covering all possible combinations of keying
possibilities, function keys, etc.

(Note: it will NOT cover every possibility of entries; that would be
humanly
impossible. But it covers all error conditions such as valid versus
invalid
data -- not every possible invalid _value_)

I'm excited about this program, and hopefully I'll find the time this
weekend
to write it.

Is this something that appeals to anyone else? Does anyone else write
test
scripts?
