I had to get help from my dad for this one. He had a copy of an article from the DataNetwork (?) magazine that answers this situation. :-) FND 3 3 FNZ 4 4 FNC 1 3 The date is stored like this: 0 M D Y M D Y F The FND gets the Y in the third position. The FNZ will get the Y in the fourth position. Then the FNC will get the month, day and the first digit of the year (which won't have any effect on the sort). The article answers the bonus question but I don't have the whole article to answer it. Do I still get an 'A' if I got the answer out of a book? :-) Mark Welte Denso Manufacturing Tennessee, Inc. ---------- From: cmassoglia@vixa.voyager.net[SMTP:cmassoglia@vixa.voyager.net] Sent: Tuesday, December 02, 1997 9:49 PM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: FMTDTA/#GSORT Challenge You have a 6 digit packed MMDDYY date in positions 1-4 of a file.
